About Endodontics

Logo-for-Endo-page-resizedRecognized by the American Dental Association as one of the nine branches of dentistry, endodontics involves treating the pulp and surrounding tissues of the tooth. The word "endodontic" is derived from two words, "endo" meaning inside and "odont" meaning tooth. The most common endodontic procedure is root canal therapy.

Endodontists are dental specialists who have received two or more years of an advanced training in the specific field of endodontics. Endodontists focus solely on endodontics, thus limiting their practices to all aspects of endodontic treatment. Endodontists perform routine as well as difficult and complex endodontic procedures, and they are experienced in finding the cause of difficult-to-diagnose oral and facial pain.

Common causes for the need of endodontic treatment:

  • Inflamed/infected tooth pulp
  • Severe sensitivity to hot and cold elements
  • Tooth decay
  • Chipped or broken tooth
  • Blow to the tooth
  • Swelling or tenderness near the infected tooth
  • Repeated dental procedures on a tooth

Please contact our office for an evaluation if you experience any of the symptoms above.
