After Endodontic Treatment

It is our goal to make your endodontic treatment as efficient and hassle-free as possible. Saving your natural teeth is a high priority, and one of the main benefits of endodontic treatment. After your procedure, it is common for patients to experience tenderness or soreness in the treated area for several days following the procedure. To help minimize this discomfort, you should avoid chewing foods near the sore tooth. You may also take over-the-counter pain medication, such as ibuprofen (Advil®) or acetaminophen (Tylenol®), as long as you follow the manufacturer’s instructions and do not exceed the dosing limit. Please be aware that if you are prescribed stronger, narcotic pain medication, it may make you drowsy and unable to drive or operate machinery.

Typically, the treated tooth is filled with a temporary filling. It is very important to see a dentist and have this temporary filling replaced with a permanent restoration. In most cases, the endodontic treatment will have weakened the surrounding tooth structure and a crown will be needed to support the tooth’s structure. We will communicate with your regular dentist regarding your endodontic treatment so that they have up-to-date information regarding the structure and stability of the treated tooth, and can help recommend the best course of action to you.

We also typically recommend patients return to our office approximately one year after their initial endodontic treatment, so that we can ensure your tooth has recovered and healed properly. This follow-up appointment is complimentary.

If any questions or difficulties arise concerning your treatment, please do not hesitate to call this office. If our office is closed, you can call Dr. Mallik directly.
